Hybrid Tug Update The world's first hybrid tug is enroute to her home port of Los Angeles/Long Beach where her formal launch ceremony will take place on January 23rd. The tug successfully completed her official bollard pull while under hybrid propulsion. Her systems are working as anticipated with load sharing between the diesels and electric motors providing a smooth and seamless transition of power from idle to full power. Trials have shown that her transit speed under generators alone (main engines shut down) exceeded expectations. The tug has also successfully operated on batteries alone. In the coming weeks the vessel will continue sea trials, operating in her various hybrid modes gathering baseline data for future comparisons of emission and fuel savings.
